Steps to SEO your hybrid website

6 BASIC STEPS TO SEO YOUR WEBSITE

This guide will give you the 6 most important things that you can do to SEO your intothedarkroom website. These six steps will make more sense if you have read our strategy guide or have a strong understanding of SEO. Each section below is accompanied by a “how to video” to help you better implement these concepts.

1. Build a strategy

A good keyword strategy will make or break your ability to rank and generate SEO traffic. If you have no keyword strategy, STOP reading now and read our SEO STRATEGY GUIDE. Once you have a solid keyword strategy, the rest of this will become very useful. Below is a video on how to use the Google Keywords tool (https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool)

2. The basics

Meta data is not that important anymore. It is even argued that it does nothing. However, we have a place in our website backend that allows you to add your Meta tags and description. The description will eventually appear in Google searches. In addition, you can also add items like your browser titles.

3. Page titles

Google and other search engines place importance on page titles and so should you. Every page title that you add has the potential for good keyword placement. Your most important keyword should probably be your first page (or homepage) and should have a lot of content on it. You get no points for page titles like "home" or “about me”. Remember to add good rich keyword content on each page to compliment that page title.

4. Keyword rich content

Most of the page types in our CMS have a “description field”. You are going to want to add your descriptions to each page that you can. If you use a Splash page, there is a place for an SEO blurb. Remember, this text should be in paragraph form (not keyword stuffing) and should be pertinent to the page title.

5. Internal links

Your navigation buttons are also important to search engines. They are considered internal links that are on every single page of your website. Making them "contextual links" (named using keywords) are a great way to utilize this feature. A button called “About me” will get you way less mileage then a keyword.

6. Images (alt tags)

Chances are, you have more images on your website then anything else. Google can not see what the image is. It can only read the text associated with that image. Take the time to add the titles and descriptions to your images (alt tags) in the backend of your website and it increase your ability to rank.
